Can you tackle the Arundel 10k Challenge?

  • Published: 26 May 2019

Was it your new year's resolution to get fit? If it was but you haven’t yet found your running shoes it’s still not too late to make good on your 2019 promise.

This coming August sees the annual Arundel Castle 10k and what better way to get fit than by training to take part in this scenic race which takes in some of the best sights West Sussex has to offer.

Organised by Arundel Scout group and taking place on the 25th August, the Arundel 10k is a major part of the towns annual festival and sees hundreds of runners take part. Taking in the town, the castle and Arundel park it really is a beautiful route and at Comfort Inn Arundel we can provide you with a fantastic base from which you can tackle this race.

Located off of the main arterial road of the South Coast, the A27, at Comfort Inn we are just minutes away from Arundel town centre and the start of the race itself. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the build-up to the event and somewhere to enjoy your well-earned rest afterwards, look no further.

Our comfortable and modern bedrooms each have their own en suite bathroom and a range of great features which includes the likes of a 32" LCD Television and Tea & Coffee making facilities. Furthermore, in a recent update, all of our double rooms now feature king size beds to help you relax even more.

After a good nights sleep, all runners assemble in the town centre at the foot of the high street. Starting in the square allows for a fantastic atmosphere as the runners prepare for the imminent 6.2 miles.

The race starts by taking in a small loop in the centre of the town before heading out along Mill Road before turning left into the castle grounds. Runners will pass through the main castle gate, working their way up through the scenic gardens before starting a climb of approximately 1 mile to the top of Arundel park.

Here is where the majority of work is completed before the rest of the route takes you on a downhill blast. Before turning down the valley you are afforded fantastic views of the surrounding countryside as you prepare to head back towards Arundel.

Another small climb follows with a couple of miles to go before you have the opportunity to run through the centre of the castle and over the draw bridge where there is quite often a photographer for a fantastic photo opportunity.

Blast out of the castle and it’s just a matter of meters to the finish where you’ll cross the line in front of cheering spectators as you collect your all-important finishers medal.

The Arundel 10k is a great event and gives you the opportunity to look at Arundel from a new perspective. So if you are looking for accommodation for this event, or for any other dates throughout the year, we would very much look forward to meeting you at Comfort Inn Arundel.
